I keep thinking of the trainwreck subplot in
Atlas Shrugged
. Who do these lunatics think they're going to get to work for them anywhere, much less in such a dangerous environment where they're actively making things worse for everybody?
I know leftists are supposed to be incompetent but there's always the risk of being wrong about this and I have to think they were planning for this. But what the hell are they going to pull next?

In addition to demanding money from government property, they are also shutting down freedom of speech. They're trying to purge the majority of the country. When that doesn't work, they'll put us all into slavelabor. They're the masters, we're the slaves.

And then this comes along. Is it safe to assume their spies just grabbed all the data to build this from US files? They've got dominance and the US is purging its best military.

Now that I think about it, and it's probably not remotely an original thought, but leftists are fundamentally lazy. They're all about how other people should do things but never set that example in any real-world activities, at most they get to portray themselves as wonderful people above the crowds. We see that with all the place-holders and empty work [blanking on the term for that] they take part in. This may be the example of 'mediocrity' that I've cited. I don't think "lazy" is the right term either but it's the closest I can get off the top of my head.
Anyway, in the real world, actually doing something does make a difference to their own perceptions and they see themselves as separating from the rest. Ideally they drop the leftism but a lot of times, that doesn't happen, especially when they're surrounded by sycophants.
The most obvious example would be running a business the way they think businesses should be run. They rarely even make the attempt and even more rarely have any success and still more rarely have any success that reinforces their leftist beliefs. But they claim to not care about profits, so you'd think that would be ideal for starting a business in whatever talents they have. Doesn't happen.
There are those who have success and remain deluded, most notably in show business, where even being surrounded by toadies wouldn't be enough. Hmmm, worth more thought.
