I saw you on the dark side of the Moon. That's why I don't go there anymore.

□ [“Trump Refuses to Extend Iran Deadline — 'All Hell is Gonna Break Out'"]

Uh-huh.  48 hours to open the strait or else.  8PM Eastern time tomorrow is when it starts.  But darn it, I've scheduled washing my hair at that time, can we postpone it for a while?

I'm not being totally dismissive.  Something is almost-certainly planned.  I doubt Trump is going to blow up the whole country.  There might be something big and flashy happening but that's about it.  Of course it's also possible nothing will happen and Trump will announce another delay.

At his age he's not going to change but this really is one of the most irritating things about him, we never know how much can really be taken seriously.  Looking at his comments, a few of them make it unclear if he's actually set up the deadline for tomorrow evening.  At one point he said "The entire country could be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night."  Can't he be straight?  Well, no he can't.

Pakistan has offered a ceasefire but Iran immediately rejected it.  They have their own list of demands.  Trump rejected that and reinforced his own threat of destroying the country.  As unnerving and irritating as this is, I gotta admit I'm kind of enjoying getting to see what happens.  It's nice to have a POTUS who can actually make threats.  At least we know Trump is capable of going through with them, it's the rest of it we have to worry about.

Weren't they already doing that?  What are they going to be doing differently.  Did Vader tell them the Emperor is coming to visit the new battlestation and expects to see some progress on it?  "Iran is not as forgiving as I am"?

I'm sure Muslim immigrants are doing what they can to help in every nation they're in.  Sweden is reporting massive problems from Muslim criminals and a lot of European leaders in general are speaking out about this.  I'm worried about an equivalent of US Uniparty but the EU parliament is over 25% right-wingers so to a large extent, that's enough to sway any vote on things like this.  And the citizens have had enough so it's not going to stop there.

And this leads me to the leftist insanity we see these days.  Well, I mostly deal with it on the internet - which has its own problems - but I think it's another example of what Iran is trying to hit us with before it's too late.  They can't win with the military so they need to hit us with everything they can.  I assume we've taken out whatever bioweapons they have so suicide bombers would cause the most damage.  So we'll see what the left does.

Well, it's happened.  I haven't done much today but even I've dealt with a bit of weirdness as the Moon deals with these unfamiliar people on the other side.  Since we have no idea what's going to happen, I thought I'd look up this day in history and see what leaps out at me.

The oldest known event was in 46BC, Julius Caesar won a battle.  In 1453, the final siege of Constantinople was started.  In 1652, the camp that would become Cape Town, South Africa was formed.  In 1793, the Committee of Public Safety was formed, which may possibly have been the first official leftist tyranny government.  In 1800, the Treaty of Constantinople made Greece independent.  In 1814, Napoleon was exiled from France.  In 1830, the church that would become the Church of Latter Day Saints was founded, it would be given that name on this date in 1860.  In 1896, the first modern Olympics started.

In 1909, men arrived at the North Pole.  In 1917, the US declared war on Germany.  In 1941, Germany invaded Yugoslavia and Greece, which ultimately lost them the war because it delayed the Russian invasion so winter would start before they could win.  In 1968, Pierre Trudeau won the nomination to become Prime Minister of Canada and they're still living with that.  And in 1973, Pioneer 11 was launched, the first human ship to reach Saturn.

French poet Jean-Baptiste Rousseau was born in 1671, there aren't too many interesting births and deaths but there are a few.  Today is comics artist Gil Kane's 100th birthday.  Country star Merle Haggard was born on this day in 1937 and died on this day in 2016.  Billy Dee Williams in 1937, John Ratzenberger in 1947, Marilu Henner in 1952.  Tim Walz in 1964, in case you hadn't thought about him enough lately.  Peter Rudd in 1969.

Deaths include Richard I of England in 1199, Raphael the artist in 1520.  There's quite a few big names I'm just looking at those that seem relevant to me in some way and there aren't too many of those.  Igor Stravinsky in 1971.  Isaac Asimov in 1992.  Mickey Rooney in 2014, Ray Charles and James Best (Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane) in 2015.  Don Rickles in 2017.  The closer we get to the modern day, the less relevant these names are but there's probably a reason for that.  Fifty years and one day ago, Howard Hughes died.

Also fifty years ago today, Jimmy Carter was running for POTUS and said the federal government shouldn't interfere with a local neighborhoods' "ethnic purity."  He would be called 'racist' and have to apologize for that but would explain that he "would not arbitrarily use federal force to move people of different ethnic background into a neighborhood just to change its character."  That was Democrats 50 years ago.
