A lot of pacifists changed their mind when World War I came along.  I wonder if that has something to do with their personality.  They didn't actually mean they were against war, they just thought it did.

Today Afghanistan has been lost.  The infidel has been defeated.  Last night, the Washington Monument was struck by lightning.

Will Iran, Russia or China be moving into Afghanistan now?  Or Pakistan but I suspect that will start falling apart next, to the extent it hasn't already.  China will be taking over Taiwan.  Russia has Europe.

And of course Israel will be overrun by invaders.

Just five weeks ago, Biden claimed there was no chance of this happening.  The media won't say anything to him.  Nobody remembers the idiot who claimed it was a "war of necessity" either.

It's pointed out by many that this is like the 1975 fall of Saigon.  It's also got similarities to Russia retreating from Afghanistan in 1989.  I have to wonder, given that many Americans are now trapped there without protection, how soon before it also reminds us of the Iranian Hostage Crisis?

I'm not the only one who has noticed how similar this is to quitting Vietnam so that communists could take over.  They don't care how many millions die or how many countries Vietnam invades, at least communists rule.

Not only are we getting close to the 20th anniversary of 9/11, it's also the anniversary of the start of World War I which I still see as *the* most prominent event in the world's history.  In 20 years since the towers fell, Democrats are now eager to use Gitmo and every other post-9/11 tactic against...  Americans who know the election was stolen and/or those who don't want government vaccination.

Recently for the first time in years, I remembered the "KISS principle," Keep It Simple Stupid.  Not sure how I forgot that but it happens.  As soon as I remembered it, it occurred to me that leftists never consider this.  They have such wonderfully high opinions of themselves that they can handle anything no matter how complicated it is and everybody else should too.

First of all, that's not how reality works.  The more complicated something is, the more things there are that can go wrong.  The more things there are that can go wrong, the harder it is to identify what actually went wrong, much less to fix it.  This wastes a lot of time, energy and money trying to fix what didn't actually cause the problem and usually creating new problems in the process.

There's also the fact that different people have different viewpoints so what you may think went wrong will probably turn out to be something that someone else thinks works perfectly and they'll think something you like went wrong.  Add three or four more people to the process and you've got a lot more time, energy and money wasted while nothing is getting fixed and the problem just keeps growing.

Then there's the fact that the more a leftist talks about "equality" and "respect for others," the more they intend to be in charge of everybody and will not permit disagreement.  The ones actually in command will force everyone else to fix the problem which doesn't exist while ignoring the actual problem.  Men with guns will usually need to be sent in to enforce the orders, another way to complicate things which don't need them in the first place.

And don't forget, actually treating other people with respect means not wasting their time.  There are times where bothering other people with something they don't want is required, that's where "Keep It Simple Stupid" really stands out.

Other people have their own interests, they have their own goals, they have as little time as you do.  Take as little from them as possible so they can give you whatever you need and then get back to what's really important to them.  You don't do that by making anything complicated.

And we see here that leftists in San Francisco eagerly make things more complicated and force everyone to go along with them.  And expensive, who the f*ck even makes a $20,000 garbage can, much less wants to buy one, much less forces everyone else to pay for them?  They're the masters, everyone else is the slaves and safe to assume they consider everyone else to be stupid.  That's why they don't even think of keeping things simple.

I have to admit, it would be entirely listenable if they threw out all that noise and just had Slash and Duff lead the other employees in a jam to recreate the same thing the way they do on stage.  As it is, what are they getting out of this?  I have no idea if either of them are even on the new release and Axl owns 100% of every single thing G'n'R has done since 1996 (all sixteen songs) so it's not like he'll share any credit with them.  It's not like it'll get played on radio or MTV anyway.

The point of a two-guitar rock band is one guy on lead, the other on rhythm.  Why the hell does Axl have any interest whatsoever on several guitarists all playing lead at once?  The whole thing is like he put in the maximum amount of effort all these years to create as little as possible and this song/video are what he has to show for it.

The song was written closer to the breakup with Stephanie than to the release of Chinese Democracy, it's safe to assume she's the screaming fucking banshee who doesn't even deserve to be in the gutters.

It's ridiculous enough to make you wonder if Axl really did have this planned all along and this is what he knew 2021 would deserve.  It's just a close-up of a computer-generated Medusa with very little movement, just color changes, and no connection to even the timing of the song much less anything else.  And this music is the actual recording which has nothing to do with Guns'n'Roses.  Slash and Duff could say they had nothing to do with it and no one would disagree.

I've watched the video once before writing any of this, now I'm going to watch it again.  The things I do for you people.

Nope, there's nothing.  Oh, there's enough movement of the medusa figure to suggest that something might possibly start happening but that's it.  The actual bridge is a few bars of soft music which has nothing to do with the rest of it and there's no clue what Axl is trying to sing.  He obviously needed many edits for that vocal take which was then repeated three times.

There actually could be potential.  It wouldn't be great but if they dropped most of the overdubbed guitars and if Axl sounded something like he used to, it would definitely be catchier.

With all the swear words, there's no way this will get played on radio or MTV so it can't be much of a hit.  There'll be a lot of views on Youtube though.  The swearing is probably why it wasn't on Chinese Democracy, Axl used few if any swear words on that album.

It's like the minimal amount of work to suggest that something might happen, the amount of overproduction just adding noise to would could be a decent-if-generic G'n'R tune, the video that's literally barely more than nothing.  Random clips of concert attendees would at least have something but this...  Absurd isn't even close to the right word.

Well, this is depressing.  I didn't know Robinson had died until I found an article about Markie Post.  And last night I was working on the "History project," I've been using 1950 as a test year to practice formatting and finished the year last night.  Just before I finished, I noticed I'd passed Markie's birth-date.  A day or so ago, I'd even felt like watching an episode of Night Court, one of the '200 cases before midnight' episodes.

Don't have much to say tonight.  I've been working on the "History project" and I've gotten the proof copy of the next book as well as a proof copy of a long-term plain called "Vanity."  I've also re-written Life and Polonia for a final version unless I decide to do this again in another ten years.  So for all of you fans of the book, it's now out-of-date.  And I've re-organized the B-side so it's similar to all the other books.

I'm planning to do that to all the books including the ones I've written since.  That's the "Vanity" project.  One more shot to re-write everything.  So far there's around 4000 pages that I need to get through and obviously there'll be more by the time I get caught up.  Assuming the world doesn't end, this seems to be what I'm doing with my life, trying to account for as much as possible and think as much as I can.

Checking last night's G'n'R concert, I haven't specifically compared the order but it looks like they changed it a little.  They did add "Patience" but otherwise it's the same setlist, just maybe in a slightly different order.

Looked a little closer, it's mostly the same order.  They did drop "Dead Horse" so that must count for something.

Also just a note, Alice Cooper was originally a band and eventually the lead singer took the name.  I cannot find any reference to if he was actually called "Alice" during the time in the band, but it's safe to assume that influenced Axl.

Since I'm obviously keeping track of this stuff, Guns'n'Roses actually played a new song in yesterday's concert.  It was first played in 2001 and not really played after that but it is newer than almost anything else they play, except possibly for the two Chinese Democracy songs.

It still sounds weird, Axl has this strange accent like he's a punker in 1970s London.  His vocals aren't horrible which is a difference.  The bridge is just a random batch of sounds running for eight or sixteen bars with no purpose for being there but it otherwise sounds like something that could be considered real Guns'n'Roses.  It's been a long time since we've heard anything like that so this does put away some complaints.

Obviously there are relevant questions, why are they playing a song that was available on bootlegs two decades ago - I have mine somewhere, thank you for asking - when they could just play a new song?  Why was this renamed to "Absurd"?  Is that really a better title than "Silkworms"?  It's not like the lyrics are any better.

It is "a" change, no denying that.  The rest of the setlist was the same but this does qualify as a novelty.  In theory they could simply have a 'new song' on each show in between the Duff cover and "Civil War" and the world would think there's a new Guns'n'Roses album.  The rest of the set list was only the songs they played in the previous concert with "Double Talking Jive" played before "Slither" instead of after and Better played before "Estranged," "Live and Let Die" and "You're Crazy" instead of after.  Those were the only changes.

Which is weirder, that we're getting to hear what technically qualifies as a "new" G'n'R song or that this was all they had to offer?  Well, Axl's vocals were weirder but you get my point.

Given my odd interest in them these days, I was surprised to hear Guns'n'Roses did a concert last weekend.  Even more surprising, they played in the US.  I guess they're starting a tour now.  Much less surprising, the set list barely changed.

The biggest surprise is that they didn't include "Patience."  Of any song to drop, they pick that one?  The only song from Lies they played was "You're Crazy," the slow version of a song we'd heard on Appetite.  At least one could say Guns'n'Roses play a lot of songs in concert, even if they're the same ones over and over, but this time they didn't even do that.  21 songs total, counting adding Iggy and the Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" so Duff could sing a cover.  That was the only addition, a song that's over half-a-century old.

19 of the 21 songs, 20 if you count Duff getting to sing a cover, were in the exact same order as their last concert, January 31, 2020.  Eight songs, almost 40 percent, were from Appetite.  Eight songs were from the Illusion albums.  I still can't believe they dropped "Patience."  It's not my favorite G'n'R song but it's one of their most classic, the single they released when they were the hottest band in the world.

[What is my favorite?  I dunno but I'm surprised to note that I thought of "Rocket Queen" before I remembered "Welcome to the Jungle."]

Counting another Duff cover song, they played 15 of the 17 songs from their April 1, 2016 reunion which didn't include "Patience" either, odd.  At least that has a slight excuse, it was a shorter concert so something has to get cut out.

Apparently they're playing in Boston tonight.  If they show up in time, they're probably playing right now, or at least opening act Wolfgang Van Halen.  Wonder if they'll do any "new" songs this time.  No, they probably won't.  But Slash's next album should be out in several months.

If I knew what I was talking about, I could write a book. But I wouldn't be able to read it, that's boring.

Yesterday was also the 50th anniversary of the Concert for Bangladesh.  No one even remembers.  I have to think part of it was just George trying to get as far away from the Beatles as possible and the most obvious way to do that was to play with other famous people.  It was also influence from his sycophants in India which also came from that 'getting far away from the Beatles' thing.

I'm wondering if all the headlines I've been posting are because the world is falling apart or if I'm just being lazy as a writer.  I guess we'll never know.

Which ties into their urge to control over their inferiors.  To do that you have to show everyone they aren't allowed to behave like you or the people you consider equals.  Or even your superiors if you believe there are any.

I'm coming to think that "individuality" is what they're really at war with.  Everything else comes from that.  The obvious example is capitalism which is the best supporter of individuality there's ever been.  I'll need to think more on this but off the top of my head, liberal arguments always denying individual rights or even individuality itself.  Ignore all the people with guns who never remotely try to kill people, "Guns kill people!"  Trump wasn't such an evil racist that Bill and Hillary Clinton didn't go out of their way to attend his wedding to Melania.

By denying individuality, they have to insist everything is more complicated than it actually is.  Sure, existence is more complicated than humans can comprehend but their definitions are always going in the wrong way.  Individuals are all the same because of skin color or gender or income or what they self-identify as.

An example of the complication would be the "if it saves ONE LIFE" motif which never works but it does give them the authority to control all lives.  Banning black from having guns would save at least one life but Democrat-controlled cities and states won't do that.  Banning abortion would save at least one life.

I'm sure there are some leftists who are waking up to this - the percentages suggests that - but they aren't enough to make a difference.

Biden even got a response, as he tried to leave while not wearing a mask, a reporter called out “You said if you were fully vaccinated, you no longer need to wear a mask.”

“No! I didn’t say that,” was the response and odd that this is where Biden actually decides to stick around.

"In May, you made it sound like the vaccine was the ticket to losing the mask forever.”

“That was true at the time!”

Only if you're too stupid to know how viruses work.  Then again, he literally just said he never said what he said and doesn't even notice that he absolutely did say it.
