Since I'm obviously keeping track of this stuff, Guns'n'Roses actually played a new song in yesterday's concert.  It was first played in 2001 and not really played after that but it is newer than almost anything else they play, except possibly for the two Chinese Democracy songs.

It still sounds weird, Axl has this strange accent like he's a punker in 1970s London.  His vocals aren't horrible which is a difference.  The bridge is just a random batch of sounds running for eight or sixteen bars with no purpose for being there but it otherwise sounds like something that could be considered real Guns'n'Roses.  It's been a long time since we've heard anything like that so this does put away some complaints.

Obviously there are relevant questions, why are they playing a song that was available on bootlegs two decades ago - I have mine somewhere, thank you for asking - when they could just play a new song?  Why was this renamed to "Absurd"?  Is that really a better title than "Silkworms"?  It's not like the lyrics are any better.

It is "a" change, no denying that.  The rest of the setlist was the same but this does qualify as a novelty.  In theory they could simply have a 'new song' on each show in between the Duff cover and "Civil War" and the world would think there's a new Guns'n'Roses album.  The rest of the set list was only the songs they played in the previous concert with "Double Talking Jive" played before "Slither" instead of after and Better played before "Estranged," "Live and Let Die" and "You're Crazy" instead of after.  Those were the only changes.

Which is weirder, that we're getting to hear what technically qualifies as a "new" G'n'R song or that this was all they had to offer?  Well, Axl's vocals were weirder but you get my point.

Given my odd interest in them these days, I was surprised to hear Guns'n'Roses did a concert last weekend.  Even more surprising, they played in the US.  I guess they're starting a tour now.  Much less surprising, the set list barely changed.

The biggest surprise is that they didn't include "Patience."  Of any song to drop, they pick that one?  The only song from Lies they played was "You're Crazy," the slow version of a song we'd heard on Appetite.  At least one could say Guns'n'Roses play a lot of songs in concert, even if they're the same ones over and over, but this time they didn't even do that.  21 songs total, counting adding Iggy and the Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" so Duff could sing a cover.  That was the only addition, a song that's over half-a-century old.

19 of the 21 songs, 20 if you count Duff getting to sing a cover, were in the exact same order as their last concert, January 31, 2020.  Eight songs, almost 40 percent, were from Appetite.  Eight songs were from the Illusion albums.  I still can't believe they dropped "Patience."  It's not my favorite G'n'R song but it's one of their most classic, the single they released when they were the hottest band in the world.

[What is my favorite?  I dunno but I'm surprised to note that I thought of "Rocket Queen" before I remembered "Welcome to the Jungle."]

Counting another Duff cover song, they played 15 of the 17 songs from their April 1, 2016 reunion which didn't include "Patience" either, odd.  At least that has a slight excuse, it was a shorter concert so something has to get cut out.

Apparently they're playing in Boston tonight.  If they show up in time, they're probably playing right now, or at least opening act Wolfgang Van Halen.  Wonder if they'll do any "new" songs this time.  No, they probably won't.  But Slash's next album should be out in several months.

If I knew what I was talking about, I could write a book. But I wouldn't be able to read it, that's boring.

Yesterday was also the 50th anniversary of the Concert for Bangladesh.  No one even remembers.  I have to think part of it was just George trying to get as far away from the Beatles as possible and the most obvious way to do that was to play with other famous people.  It was also influence from his sycophants in India which also came from that 'getting far away from the Beatles' thing.

I'm wondering if all the headlines I've been posting are because the world is falling apart or if I'm just being lazy as a writer.  I guess we'll never know.

Which ties into their urge to control over their inferiors.  To do that you have to show everyone they aren't allowed to behave like you or the people you consider equals.  Or even your superiors if you believe there are any.

I'm coming to think that "individuality" is what they're really at war with.  Everything else comes from that.  The obvious example is capitalism which is the best supporter of individuality there's ever been.  I'll need to think more on this but off the top of my head, liberal arguments always denying individual rights or even individuality itself.  Ignore all the people with guns who never remotely try to kill people, "Guns kill people!"  Trump wasn't such an evil racist that Bill and Hillary Clinton didn't go out of their way to attend his wedding to Melania.

By denying individuality, they have to insist everything is more complicated than it actually is.  Sure, existence is more complicated than humans can comprehend but their definitions are always going in the wrong way.  Individuals are all the same because of skin color or gender or income or what they self-identify as.

An example of the complication would be the "if it saves ONE LIFE" motif which never works but it does give them the authority to control all lives.  Banning black from having guns would save at least one life but Democrat-controlled cities and states won't do that.  Banning abortion would save at least one life.

Apparently we're at some deadlines for various states where the election was stolen and they aren't remotely interested in going along with their state rules.  Will this August actually be a change for the better?  Wouldn't bet on it but it may be interesting.

And just a note, I wonder if this will go anywhere, Marvel has just had it's first real movie bomb, or at least the first one for the official "MCU."  The Black Widow movie, she not so hot.  Pretty sure that if Scarlett Johansen had done it a decade ago, there'd be a lot more people who want to see everything.  But no, they waited too long, probably desperate to prove that people really do want to watch superchick movies.  She's already suing Marvel because that always works out well.

I'm not sure how it's happened, but I've actually gone through most of the Duckman episodes by now.  I'm not watching them but just that for the first time in a couple decades, I've consistently had videos of something playing while I worked.  Why?

Anyway, at its best, the show was excellent.  Made for the USA network's "Up All Night," I've always seen it as an attempt to make genuinely adult cartoons and it worked very well there.  There are a few places where the 'mid-1990s' aspect doesn't really work, too many references for things that nobody remembers, and especially towards the end, the leftism becomes way too obvious.  That part's obviously been going on in Hollywood for a long time but usually they can find something entertaining in the process.

I've always seen this show as an alternate to the Simpsons' immense popularity, this was was the series where the new potential of cartoons was really seen, or at least expanded upon the Simpsons.  In modern animation, there was Who Framed Roger Rabbit, then the Simpsons, a year later or so there was Duckman and the rest got started after that.

There's also technology, cable was expanding big-time by then and the various new channels had to fill their hours with something.  There was only so much reruns that could be done, new recordings would need to be added.  Unscripted programing could only do so much, cartoons were an obvious choice.

This is where I can't speculate too much, I was certainly watching a lot of tv back then but even then, it was pretty limited.  Music videos, sitcoms, Simpsons, movie channels.  Older cartoons, sure, but I didn't follow most of the newer ones.  Obviously what's on tv nowadays is completely foreign to me.

Yet now I find myself watching stuff, at least stuff that came out two or three decades ago.  There are other sitcoms I'd be totally willing to watch episodes on other shows from the same era.  Ok, I have the dvd's in the next room, I could obviously see them, or just buy them on Amazon, but there you go.  That's how interested I am.

Still, Duckman does stand out as something of quality, not a common thing.

Book-making has gone well lately.  It shouldn't be too hard to finish a second book this year, assuming the world still exists by then.

I've never seen the Space Jam movies but I've recently heard a review of the new one and it's basically putting together as many Warner Bros. properties as possible.  I don't know if the first one did that but they did have the cartoon characters.  Steven Spielberg did a similar movie a few years ago.

This had been tried before in Who Framed Roger Rabbit but what stuck out was the open merger of everything in the company.  This sticks out for being what Marvel and DC have done in comics for decades and finally brought that into movies.  And that connects with using the recent Star Wars movie climax as a rip-off of the final Avengers movie and my theory that the elite are trying to promote something along the lines of 'alternate universes.'

Just trying to put this down so I can continue thinking about it.

So are the elite just demonstrating that they'll sacrifice anyone they want, some lives don't matter and helping us doesn't matter to them?  Are Iran and/or China just moving in?  Is this demonstrating the threat of Islam we've seen for the last couple decades, they know how to deal with the infidel?

I doubt it's a major factor, but trying to move into the Chinese market is probably a big reason why Hollywood has been in on this stuff too.  As is China's investment in Afghanistan and its neighbors.

This is how government property is treated.  Notice that Joe Biden is going around to talk about opposing the audit of the election than he spent campaigning.  That's why they're sending agents to start knocking on everyone's door to ask about vaccines but not if they actually voted for Biden.  That question would cause too many other problems.

They need to keep people from knowing what's going on.  Lebanon is falling apart, probably due to Iran and Syria's activities, but notice no one minds that.  They're focused on the imaginary nation of Palestine as an excuse to destroy Jews.

And the party that's supporting all this is totally after trying to prevent people from challenging them on anything.  But they can still pretend men can get pregnant.  They pretend to believe in "science" when it's all about "conformity."

Biden just did a town hall on CNN and they only got 1.5 million viewers.  That's not someone who got more votes from living people than any candidate in history.  I have to think they're putting them through this because I'm pretty sure there's some level where the POTUS has to actually do something in order to set an example for policy.  Obama had to pretend he was shooting a gun at least once and walked around in high heels to make some claim about sexism (not both at the same time.)

Yeah, there's the enjoyment of having a puppet, there's pretending he's actually in charge of something but I think there's something to this.

There's also a rumor that they're going to shut down the internet for a period of time.  When it reopens, there will be new rules.  Anything they don't like will be banned and there'll be a lot on that list.

Here's an odd notice, for some reason in the last couple of weeks, I've started paying attention to video more.  It's not that I'm really watching it, but it's been a very long time since I've even had something playing while I work on a book or whatever.  Several days ago, I had Citizen Kane playing and literally watched only one short clip, but it was the entire movie.  Today, I noticed a headline that the Cleveland Indians had changed their name and had to wonder if they'd banned the movie Major League.  Since I'd already bought it on Amazon a few years ago - one of the most recent movies I'd purchased there, Avengers 4 was the next one after that which I bought as soon as it was available - I put it on.  I've already seen more clips from it than Citizen Kane.

I've also been running Duckman on the dvd player.  That show stands up well from the mid-late 90s.  I've started getting tired of Facts of Life and the Avengers movies, but this is way more movie/tv than I've had on in many years, even if I'm not paying direct attention to a lot of it.  How do this happen?

Just a note, I now live in a place where there are mountains around me so it's an interesting experience to drive to work.  The majority of days, there are no clouds so the sun is right there but on any number or mornings, there are clouds, or at least lots of dust.  So on many mornings, the mountain ranges look quite different than normal.  It's a bit annoying to not be sure where the mountains start or end on any given day but otherwise it's a very nice visual.

There does seem to be something going on behind the scenes but nobody seems to know many details yet.  I've looked up even fewer, but it seems Team Brazil has gone after someone who did internet videos promoting the band and no one seems to know why.

Obviously being egotistical, I'd like to think some of my recent online essays is behind whatever reaction they're doing but what are the odds of that?

This article even includes a text from Harris showing a picture of her with all the others close at tables and, obviously, their nose and mouths are all entirely visible.  Not a single one of them is using a mask to keep a deadly virus out of their bodies.  That's how deadly it is.
