Apparently there was a Presidential Debate last night.  Biden actually did show up and made it through the entire 90 minutes.  I never watch the debates because I'm not remotely interested and I notice that all the comments afterwards are totally biased, usually for whoever the favorite candidate is.  But not all of them, there's usually a few people who say they totally support one guy but he completely messed up in that debate.  One never knows if they're telling the truth or just lying about who they support.

I've also noticed - maybe this happens every time but since I don't pay enough attention, there's no way to remember and I'm not going to check - that the Biden supporters who say he won are also insisting he never do this again.  That's not how winning usually works.  Most people would love to see more footage of how horrible their enemies are, assuming their guy really won.

AC/DC Confirm Reunion, ‘Pwr Up’ Album on the Way
Well that's...
I don't know what I think.  I do like artists to stay productive but based on their last album, I really got the impression they had used up all the good stuff remaining.  Malcolm probably stopped recording riffs and ideas years before he died of dementia and I would assume Angus listened to everything and picked out the best of them to make Rock or Bust back in 2014.  I can understand that he wouldn't want to quit, couldn't bring in a new guitarist to replace his brother and the band's name would carry a lot of weight, but this may be trying to hard to keep something going that really doesn't need to be active anymore.

Of course if any band in the world still has fans that want more no matter what, it's probably AC-DC.  They've brought back the bass player Cliff Williams who's been with them since 1977 and the drummer Phil Rudd who was with them from 1975-1983 and 1994 to 2015.  So other than Malcolm and, obviously, Bon, this is the 'classic lineup.'

I don't know, I guess I'm glad they're working and that's about it.  Obviously I have no interest in seeing them in concert if that ever happens but I'm sure I'll buy the album because I've become an AC-DC fan in the last few years so why not?

Disney Will Lay Off 28,000 Employees As California Governor Refuses To Provide Reopening Guidelines
September 29, 2020

I looked up when the Presidential candidates were born.  Bob Dole was born July 22, 1923 and is the oldest candidate who's still alive.  Jimmy Carter was born August 1, 1924, Walter Mondale was born January 5, 1928 and Michael Dukakis was born November 3, 1933.  They are the only ones who have ever ran for President who are still alive now and older than Joe Biden now.  Bush Sr., John McCain and Ross Perot were born before Biden but they're dead.

Obama is obviously the youngest, born 13 years and four months after the second youngest, Al Gore.  I only went back to the first Nixon election but it's odd that not a single candidate was born in the 1950s and for some reason that doesn't seem likely to change in the future.  If we're still doing elections four years from now, I doubt anyone will have been in that decade.  I didn't check Veep candidates unless they ran for President later, but Kamala Harris was born even later than Obama.  Amusing to note that decade is being dropped.

What’s Wrong with Old Joe? — Biden Wakes Up, Looks Out Window and Calls a Lid for the Day
There has never been a candidate who makes so little effort to campaign.  Even Hillary met with small groups of rich people.  Sure, she stayed away from peons as much as possible but at least she told rich people what they wanted to hear.  But Biden isn't even pretending anymore.  The first debate is scheduled for tomorrow and I'm still not sure he's going to even show up.  If he does, I don't think it's likely there will be a second debate.

Biden's claim about attending historically Black Delaware State refuted by university
This is an instance where I definitely don't think it's a mental problem for him.  I think he knew full well that he was flat-out lying.

“I got started out of an HBCU, Delaware State — now, I don’t want to hear anything negative about Delaware State,” Mr. Biden told the audience, drawing laughter, as shown on
video. “They’re my folks.”

He knows his supporters aren't going to question him, he knows they'll believe whatever he tells them and no-one will complain that he's taking a black man's place to get to college, even when he didn't.  Maybe he pretended to be black which seems to be popular these days among liberals.  Blacks may not like it but they'll stay where they are, that's how Democrats want it.

Also in the news, Trump has received a third nomination for a Nobel Peace Prize.  We all know he has no chance of getting it but it's amazing how doing something that is closer to peace than all the decades of war before it is being so totally ignored by people who claimed for decades to want peace.

Democrat Colorado Secretary of State Mails Postcards to Illegals and Dead People Urging Them to Vote
September 27, 2020

I have assumed this is their plan.  There are probably other possibilities but this has been the main goal.  I've been suspecting for a long time that there are fewer Democrats than they've every been willing to admit because their target voters doesn't want to do anything, hence the promises that government will do everything.  Voting is handled by the counties and even the smallest state has too many counties to just fake a 500% increase in votes for one candidate so I think the idea has been to basically lock people up at home and make them mail the votes in so they can keep faking more and more.

I'd like to think that there are plans to catch these attempts in advance and make them public to show what Democrats are doing now but obviously there's no way to predict that, much less set my bets on it happening.

MOMENTUM TRUMP – THIS IS NOT EVEN A RACE – Trump with Over 240,000 Attendees at His Rallies to Biden’s 84(!) Since Labor Day!

The quantity is a given, nobody's wants to go see Democrats, but the reason I wanted to check this was just to get a record of how many times Biden actually went out to see anybody.  13 events since September 4th over 7 states + Washington DC.  Trump has had 24 events in 11 states + Washington DC.  Obviously the number of attendants is more important but keep in mind that Trump also has a day job.  He's doing way more for more people in more places over the same time frame as Biden who pretends to want the same job.

September 26, 2020

Ok, it's just outside of Omaha, the only chance Biden has of winning one of Nebraska's Electoral College votes, but he wasn't going to bother doing it?  His campaign has shut down again today.  They seem to be doing it more often the closer they get to the election.  I'm actually wondering if they'll heavily drug him for the debate.  Given this is 2020, I don't think we should be surprised if either or both candidates pass out during the debate.  Biden will still get just as many votes but it might affect Trump's.

25 September, 2020

We're almost 7.5% of the way through the 2020s!

Yesterday I watched a ton of Youtube videos, something I almost never do.  I've been watching more than usual lately but it's still been something that could easily be counted on one hand.  Yesterday, not so much.  They were all in the Everything Wrong With and Honest Trailers series about movies.  It doesn't help that I don't watch any that are about movies I've never seen because there's no point to that and for the most part they focus on modern movies which is even farther away from my interests.  Yet yesterday I was surprised to watch so many videos that for the most part I'd never seen about movies that I had.

It did get a little far in.  I did see Basic Instinct once when it was in theaters and had never given it the slightest thought since.  I was delighted to discover Everything Wrong With Citizen Kane, a movie I've seen many many times but not in ages and am now tempted to see again.  I enjoyed the joke of Everything Wrong With Transformers:  The Movie because obviously there's nothing at all wrong with that movie.  The video about the 1991 Addams Family movie was fun and about a really good movie, Christmas Vacation was ok.  I saw that one in theaters and I'm sure I've seen it at least one time since but nothing about it looked familiar.  In some ways, it's not a bad thing to have memory problems.

Anyway, what led me to write this was watching the videos about Sin City and, to a lesser extent, Watchmen.  I had seen both of those one time - Sin City in theaters, Watchmen on a bootleg video tape I bought on one of my Iraq deployments - and of course I'd read the comics when they were new and many many times sense.

I don't have a whole lot to say about Watchmen and whatever I do have I already wrote in a previous book.  I'm adding it here mostly for comparison to Sin City.  In both cases, they were as close as possible to being movie versions of the comics.  No matter how good or enjoyable comic-book movies can be, there's always a large amount of change from the source material.  Chris Claremont had no interest in Wolverine and was getting ready to write him out of X-Men after a few years of trying to find something to do with him but the entire movie series has focused almost entirely on him right from the start, literally an early scene in the first movie.  I love the Spider-Man trilogy - yes, even the third one - but they also just tied together different story arcs and changed whatever they wanted to for whatever reason.  I actually like Kirsten Dunst's role but there's no way Mary Jane Watson is just a sweet little neighbor girl trying to get a theater career.  MJ can be given personality but her first appearance was literally self-obsessed, saying "Face it, tiger, you hit the jackpot" and being hot enough to get away with that, which is the opposite of what Dunst brought to the role.  Then there's Captain America picking up Thor's hammer to beat up Thanos.  Um, no.

I've long thought that the DC movies did a better job in the sense that they weren't trying to recreate the comics characters but set up the movie as a whole and then the characters would fit in.  Christopher Reeve as Superman is obviously the prime model that showed how to to this.  That movie had very little to do with the comics but it was Superman.  Adam West's Batman made as much sense as Michael Keaton's or Christian Bale's.  Obviously I still haven't seen a lot of these movies but from what I can tell, it sounds like the modern movies are trying to copy the Marvel method and fail to make any real use of their characters.

Watchmen failed because it wasn't possible to put that much story into a movie.  The form just doesn't allow it.  Comics can add captions and thought balloons, conveying information in ways that movies simply can't do, and the nature of taking up a page allows an audience member to set the pacing themselves, re-reading the story, flipping-back and forth, taking a pause for whatever reason.  Our brains take information from reading in a different way than from listening.  I've gotten used to that over the last year.  Maybe that's why I've been wasting so much time with videos lately.  Anyway...

About the only interesting thing about Watchmen was how close they came to remaking the comic.  As much as possible, the dialogue was just copied, the characters mostly did the exact same things for the same reasons.  The only major change was the ending and I think it actually worked on a movie-level because they simply weren't able to include the entire story which would have been required for the fake alien attack on New York City.  It actually works to have Ozy's plan be to blame Dr. Manhattan for attacks on the entire world, it's just the rest of the movie that sucked, even though they did their best to recreate a comic book that is widely considered the best ever.  It wasn't but it unquestionably altered the medium itself.

Sin City was even more like that.  One thing I'll give it credit for is that it's a great looking movie.  This was probably the first time computer backgrounds were used for everything and that gives the visuals a really cool appearance.  Ok, the third part of the Star Wars prequels came out the same year so obviously it had been done before, but those just looked boring.  This one looked amazing.  They also had the guts to make a black-and-white movie with very rare uses of color exactly as the comic did.  One woman's dress might be the only thing colored in a given scene, even when other women were standing right there.  Black-and-white characters fight and then one dies, covered in red blood.  In a lot of ways, the movie worked because it was just one long great visual effect which matches the characters and the plot.

On the other hand, there's also the difference between reading something and hearing it which is what totally ruined it.  One can criticize Frank Miller's dialogue but I think it's good, just made to fit his characters and his stories.  This is what he's focused on, as opposed to Alan Moore who writes good dialogue based on different characters doing different things in different stories.

The Watchmen characters at least tried to recreate realistic dialogue for these characters in this story.  That's not what Frank Miller does.  It works perfectly to read the stories about Marv or whoever, but it absolutely fails when listening to actors reciting the exact same thing as narration for fight scenes.  Fictional characters speak (or think) in their own pacing which is completely different from what real people do and it's vastly different to experience it on a page than when staring at the screen with dubbed-in sound.  Miller may not write the greatest dialogue in history but he's excellent at what he does and putting the exact same words in the mouth of expensive actors is arguably the worst movie dialogue ever.

And they absolutely copied the comics which were almost certainly the storyboards for filming.  If you've read the comics, there's nothing new in the movie, except that Nancy never gets naked.  Jessica Alba refused to play a stripper who shows her breasts to anyone and for reasons I'll never understand, they went with making the character the exact opposite of her true self.  That's the point where they decided to get away from Miller's creation and Miller was fine with that?  What's going on behind the scenes?  It would not have hurt the movie to say 'ok, Carla Gugino will be Nancy and Alba can play Becky."

Anyway, it was enjoyable to see clips from these movies and remember the comics.  I got Frank Miller to autograph my first edition copy of the first Sin City collection and I still have the original issues of Watchmen in good condition, along with the first collection which has been read too many times to be in remotely good condition as well as the ABSOLUTE collection which I probably got on the same Iraq deployment.

I think my reading ability is improving although it's nowhere near where it was a year ago.  I can look up whatever I need to in books but actually reading them is usually too difficult to bother.  Oddly enough, comics are a lot easier, most of the time anyway.  I suspect part of the problem is the size and quantity of text.  A full page of typed words is usually more than I'm willing to do but for the most part, captions and word balloons are little problem, if any.

One thing I've noticed, probably a result of my obsession with Avengers movies, is that I have given very little attention to superhero comics.  I'll look through one if it's on my mind for whatever reason but that rarely happens and even when it does, the words don't seem worth the bother.  I had Claremont's X-Men on my mind at one point at grabbed one of the Essential volumes and very quickly realized that I wasn't going to put in the effort required to actually read it.  Even with memory problems, it's still part of my mind enough that I know what's happening from panel-to-panel and I'll read particular word balloons here and there.  What bothers me is that, after all these decades, I'm doing a lot more comics-reading by just looking at the pictures.

Now the problem because that I don't have a whole lot more I want to re-read, superhero or otherwise.  I re-read Fables recently and just didn't think it was as good as I used to.  I'm happy to grab books by Peter Bagge, Garth Ennis or Kyle Baker, I haven't yet felt the need to pick up Sandman, Groo, Will Eisner or most of my collections of newspaper strips.  Or Cerebus which I suspect would give me problems for all the text pages.  Early on, I gave myself a test by grabbing Jaka's Story and that was where I really saw the problem, reading comics pages were fine, the text pages weren't.  I only made it through the prologue, even the joy of reading a book I loved but haven't read in a few years didn't help.

Sooner or later I'll try again, Frank Miller's Daredevil, Alan Moore's various titles, Astro City or the Essential collections of Stan-Jack-Steve comics or whatever.  I will always love superheroes but it's strange how the success of Avengers (and a bunch of other Marvel movies I will probably never see) has taken me out of interest in the medium that created them.  Then again, my medical issues have taken me away from the 'words' part of the 'words and pictures' medium.  That's the 2020s for you.

If you've ever wondered why Democrats seem to love China so much, there you go.  They don't even need to pay to get slaves, they just take them and that's that.  They got half a million more slaves in the first six months of 2020 and it's not like they just started doing this.

There's also news coming out that more has been released regarding Hunter Biden's adventures in Ukraine.  That's fine but this is getting ridiculous.  At this point I don't expect anything meaningful to happen.  I'd love to be wrong, but he can get all the drugs and money and slaves he wants and Democrats will always support him because of his last name.

I'm not sure I totally believe this but it does make a good example of why Democrats were determined to have mail-in votes handle this election.  How else could they throw away any votes that aren't for them?

It's also been noted that all of a sudden Democrats are saying people should show up on Election Day.  I'm not sure I totally believe that one either.  I mean, I'm sure they're saying it but do they believe it in the slightest?  I have wondered if there are long-established policies to stop mail-in voting fraud which they never gave the slightest thought to and now they're being caught, that would explain why they're suddenly pretending to want people voting in person, but there's no way we'll ever know that.

Joe Biden to Stay in His Basement Until Next Week’s Debate – Jill Will Stump For Her Feeble Husband For the Next Five Days
September 24, 2020

Ok, are they going to pretend he's sick and cancel the debate?  Is he really sick and they don't want people wondering why he's even bothering to run when Bernie Sanders is still healthy?  Has there ever been such an election where the candidate is so obviously a prop and the only question is wondering who's really in charge?

It's pointed out that Biden has almost no media at the few appearances he makes and those appearances are never promoted in advance.  Trump's appearances are definitely promoted in advance, that's kind of required to get a stadium.  If Trump has to cancel one of them (and I'd swear he did have to not long ago but I don't remember when or where) it gets noticed.  If Biden cancels, no one knows because no one knew it was supposed to happen and no one would have been there if he did show up.

I've also wondered if he's going to stay alive through Election Day.  If he falls over dead at the debates, is that going to change any of his voters?  No, not really.  It's all about Trump, Democrats could put a dead dog on the ballot who would get just as many votes as Biden.

21 September, 2020

I made it absolutely clear that I would go forward with the confirmation progress, process as chairman, even a few months before a presidential election, if the nominee were chosen with the advice and not merely the consent of the Senate.  Just as the Constitution requires.  My consistent advice to presidents of both parties, including this president, has been that we should engage fully in the constitutional process of advice and consent.  And my consistent understanding of the Constitution has been the Senate must do so as well.  Period.  They have an obligation to do so.”
- Joe Biden, 2016

But the media doesn't want to mention this stuff.  The President has every right to nominate a Supreme Court justice, the Senate has every right to say 'yes' or 'no.'  That applied four years ago and applies today.  It's Democrats who decide things change for no reason other than them getting what they want.  Now they're campaigning on adding a lot more judges to the Supreme Court which even Ruth Bader Ginsburg opposed, not that they'll listen to her.

They're barely even pretending to want anything other than power.  At this point, the question is more about how long they've been planning this.  It was definitely underway during Obama, they were definitely working this way under GWB - I realized it was going on in November 2004 - and it's not hard to believe that this was being prepared under Bush Sr, Reagan, Carter, Nixon...  Look at how violent the 1968 Democratic Convention was.  They were working for Russia then...
Black Lives Matter Quietly Deletes It's "What We Believe" Page Calling For The Destruction Of The Nuclear Family
September 21, 2020

The destruction of the family is something I think leftists have wanted for a long time and possibly wanted more than anything else.  The question is whether it's about destroying the family itself for its own sake or increasing government intervention in its property.  Because that's definitely what it is, government ownership of everyone and everything possible.  I don't know if the concept existed before Lenin's Russia but he was definitely trying to have the government know everything about everything which basically explains how communist nations work where people have to pretend to go along with government rulers.

It possibly did exist because I suspect what we know as leftism has always existed but it possibly didn't because they had never had such absolute control of a nation that they'd have even thought that far in advance.  They never expected to permit private business or the Eastern Orthodox Church until something came along after they were in charge which they couldn't get by without what they'd banned.

Government control is obviously their main desire but it's quite possible removal of men underlies that whether or not they're aware of it.  Obviously this demonstrates the gender difference and why humans don't work on the same level as every other animal.  It's also obvious that this is what the left has been doing to blacks for generations.  They want their property to obey without question and getting rid of the men is how they've done it.

They do love violence, don't they?
I'm sure I won't be leaving Facebook immediately.  If nothing else it'll take a little time to readjust how I write and post on this blog.

One of the things I liked about Facebook was that I could make posts of any size.  Back when I was using this blog regularly, I felt an obligation to make a post of a decent length.  With Facebook, I could do long posts or just make a comment or two or just post a web link, whatever hit me at the time.  I quite liked that and obviously haven't had any objection to doing it for the last ten years.

But this new system is ugly and it's like they specifically chose methods that ruin the point.  I copy-and-paste my work to a word document so it can become the basis for a book.  I had always waited two days for the date to appear on each post.  It also let me copy any response people made to the posts, you know, keeping a record of things.  But a couple months ago, the system stopped adding days for the previous week.  It might be "2d" or "4d" or "7d" and they didn't even do that correctly.  Right now posts from Friday, September 18 can be "1d" or "2d."  That's not how counting days works and is far inferior to the system from a few months ago which would all say "September 18."

When they finally forced the new system on me against my will several ds ago, I discovered that I had to copy and paste each post separately.  It looked like several posts had been covered and running the mouse over weblinks said they were still there but 'paste' would only include the top post and not include any further comments or pictures.  Then there's the way I had to rework things in order to adjust the layout to my usual position and it was very obvious that I'd have to do a lot more work just to achieve the same goal.  That's not a good system, but Facebook is the publisher.

Oh wait, they aren't.  I doubt many people used Facebook as the first draft of books the way I did, but I bet there are some.  Their political views don't help and it's safe to assume they don't consider themselves part of the peons who have to obey.  I don't know if I'll totally leave but there isn't a lot to stay for.  I don't play games or pay attention to many groups.  I write, that's about all.

At the moment, my main worry about posting here has been the short comments I make whenever I think of one.  I like putting humorous lines between the essays of my books.  I haven't been in that mood for a few months now but God willing, it will come back.  Much of my first few books came from this blog but I did like the productivity on Facebook.  If they just let us use the system as it's been for the last ten years, I wouldn't leave.  But they insist and they're the publisher.

Dammit, why do I keep thinking of them that way?  Oh right, because they insist on it.
