□ [“Supreme Court Strikes Down Trump’s Tariffs in 6-3 Decision"]
I guess this is today's big news. Something about it doesn't seem as straightforward as the court ruling for or against. It's like there's an immediate retreat by the Trump administration but not as much of one as it appears. It's also quite possible that they've planned for this and already have the next step in place, whatever it is.
The majority vote was to treat tariffs like a tax. That's probably fair, at least to an extent, as a tax on foreigners. That would be Congress' job but there's still some leeway. Tariffs can remain on steel and aluminum as part of national security. Trump supporters are already listing the laws and regulations which would justify most of the tariffs he had imposed.
Furthermore, this may be less about the tariffs themselves but about Trump's justification, the 1977 IEEPA law giving the POTUS authority to regulate international commerce in the case of emergency. Are we in an emergency or not? And who gets to decide that? If you say "Congress," they aren't doing anything. If you say the "Supreme Court," then what other influence do they have over national trade agreements? Trump has gotten a lot of deals signed with these tariffs, do those get repealed? And who gets reimbursed?
This was from the lawsuit filed in April 2025 by New York, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, and Vermont, along with a number of private companies. Looking into those may be relevant but like I said, I just get the impression this about something besides the actual tariffs. Trump was asked if the six members of the Supreme Court would be invited to the State of the Union. He wasn't nice with his answer but of course they were invited. That's just Trump, an unprofessional way of being professional.

□ [“New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani Raiding Retirement and Health Funds"]
It's amusing to watch but I just assume he's going to do something really big and stupid, probably before the end of the year. Declare he owns everything or send troops out to loot the rest of New York, something like that. He needs something, even loyal Democrats are horrified by him taking away their money like this, and he hasn't even gotten around to raising property taxes.
He's also looting from the police, cutting the budget and getting rid of a few thousand officers. There's always some areas the left is willing to immediately cut spending. I'm sure he's keeping his armed bodyguards though, no reason to go overboard.
He did open the government grocery story which has already had long lines and empty shelves. They didn't even print enough tickets to let people in so a lot of them waited for nothing. Some people got to go in without waiting in line but it's not clear if they were elites or just common thieves. Either way, they're above the peasants.
Even without the stupid stunt I mentioned earlier, he'll just increase government control over everything. Prices, hiring, regulations, all that stuff. If you can't afford anything, at least you can make everyone else's lives miserable. Because you care so much.

□ [“Jasmine Crockett’s Texas Senate Run Seems Like an Afterthought Following Colbert’s James Talarico Stunt"]
I'm not that interested in Crockett or Colbert although I did notice the stunt. The white male candidate had to get attention and the black female candidate was in the way so late night television was involved and they blamed Trump for everything. Colbert filmed the interview with the white male but then complained that the FCC was trying to silence them so he posted it on youtube. Now anybody can decide they want to vote for the white male from that interview and the black female doesn't have to be treated equally.
I think the only statement she's made on this was that she wasn't blaming the FCC for this mess. She was probably only informed about it after-the-fact, like her or not she does have actual stuff to do so it was probably just a campaign issue until this happened. Colbert gets another excuse to claim he's being silenced when nobody wants to hear him anyway and he's still paid very well. But what I find interesting is that they're so quick to ditch the black female. She's leftist, partners with AOC and represents the only voting block that didn't shrink for Democrats in 2024 but that's not enough, they want white males.
But they're doing it in such a fake way, instead of going for what voters actually want. Do they really think this will win anybody over or is just playing to their own people? Late night talk shows are not something that will win people over, the FCC has had these rules for most of a century, there are even signs that attacking Trump is getting tiresome. And turning on their own side won't help any of that.
