□ [“
Superman
Director to People Who Don't Like the Movie's Political Message: 'Screw Them'"]
This must be deliberate. Disney and Warner Bros. are spending insane amounts of money to make these IP products and getting rid of the audience is the best way to go about it. James Gunn has always struck me as the sort of freelance writer who bounces back and forth between Marvel and DC and, amplified by Hollywood, that's what he's doing here. I only know him from the ads for his movie
Tromeo and Juliet
, so you could say I'm not a fan and it looks like this is what he's brought to blockbusters.
But the companies have to know they're driving away customers, so why do they still allow this unless it's the way they want it? To an extent, I can understand if they expect A.I. to replace everything. That'll make things cheaper but it won't bring in an audience. I wonder how much these companies are already losing because of USAID and other DOGE impacts, then there's the ticket-buyers who have real jobs and don't want to waste money on this slop.
Maybe the leftists-in-charge are trying to tear these megacorporations down, including the IPs. It's looking like
Fantastic Four
will fail and the more we hear about
Superman
, the worse it gets.
Star Wars
is dead, Marvel just had another expensive failure with a tv show they filmed in 2022 and then delayed the release until now. By all accounts, DC is desperate for this movie to be a huge hit and it's getting less likely every day. And now Gunn spouts this off.

□ [“Elon Musk Formally Announces Launch of New Political Movement: 'The American Party'"]
Not a good idea. IIRC, the Republican Party was the last time a third party emerged in the US. Of course they won the second time they ran a Presidential candidate and look how that worked out. I don't think Musk is following that example. His plans are to focus on a handful of Congressional seats, keeping either of the other parties from winning without their help.
I can see the motive. A lot of people are tired of the two-party system, or the uniparty system. I disagree but that's still going to be an issue for a lot of people regardless of what I think. There is incentive here, Democrats need to get away from the *woke* and have no other option. There are probably Republicans who want to get away from Trump, although it's not clear why they wouldn't just vote Democrat.
Another problem Democrats have is that they're losing a lot of votes from deportation or fewer ballots being delivered to graveyards. Or just the old people who are almost at the graveyard. Having living voters go to another, more appealing, party, would make them desperate. Even without Musk's influence, I'd suspect his new party to be merged with either of the established parties. They don't want the competition.
It's also not clear how serious Musk really is about this. He may just be angry at Trump, or pretending to be and this is actually part of the plan. He's not American so he shouldn't be doing this in the first place. Whatever celebrity he has, I doubt it will pull in a lot of real votes. I'm not saying it can't be successful, I just suspect that whatever success it has in its short life will not be what Musk thinks he's doing here. We'll probably see that when other celebrities start endorsing it.

□ [“Ukrainian Defenses Overwhelmed by Russian Steady Advances on Two Fronts"]
They just keep moving south and west. It's been a while since we've heard how the Russian military was destroyed and losing every battle and all the rest. Will probably move faster now that the US is no longer giving Ukraine weapons, although we'll see what drones can do for both sides. Ukraine's almost a year and a half since they were supposed to have elections and none of their supporters have the slightest objection. Just have to do without the people getting a vote.
□ [“Without Russia’s Putin and China’s XI, the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro Is Emptied"]
It's probably just propaganda but it looks like BRICS isn't sure what to do right now. Don't know what effect Trump's economic policies are having on them but they might be shocked. All these different nations all around the world, it's not really clear what they expect to do other than possibly be an alternative to the US and western economies. Other than that, I'm not sure they have anything in common, although China probably finds some use for them.
Speaking of China, they have recently announced their support for Iran. Although I don't know anything about negotiations, much less with Asian countries, this just comes off a bit strange. China uses about 90% of Iran's oil so they obviously need that contact. But I don't get the impression they are dedicated to the Iranian government, the one supporting terrorism all around the world. China must know that sooner or later - probably later - Iran would do that to China for the same reasons and it would be helpful to their allies and interests to cut that off now. Especially if China still gets the oil.
I still think that the priority for Trump's negotiations with China was to make sure they didn't step into help their allies, the mullahs. This would include letting Israel do most of the work and getting rid of major problem in the world. Still no news but I've heard Iranian protests are continuing. After that, Trump wants the economic to be more straightforward and profitable to both sides, but that's more of a long-term goal.

□ [“Mexicans Angry As Americans Immigrate Into Their Country for Better Living Conditions"]
I assume this is just an anecdote, there aren't many Americans stupid enough to try to move to Mexico. Well, there are, but they're all too lazy to do that. Canada's the one they say they'll move to, although that rarely happens either.
Abortion in Mexico only became legal in 2021 and only up through the first 12 weeks. Gay marriage only became legal in 2010 although by now it has covered the whole country. Transgenders are still illegal in many Mexican states. Interestingly, the Supreme Court was behind legalizing most of this, the citizens didn't get a vote. All the liberals who moved there must be glad to hear that.
But Mexicans don't want foreigners to move in, you can only get six months without a visa. Maybe the rich people who move there just want cheap servants but anybody else will probably run into problems very quickly. I think that really is the sort of thing pro-illegal immigrants need to be facing more of, what it's like when they're the ones invading another country that doesn't want them.
