Pretend for the sake of argument that he's serious about this.  He's only now gotten around to it?  It's taken all these months and all the news that even the media can't hide to get around to thinking maybe a contingency plan will keep him from being a total failure.

Of course he's not serious about this, it will take several more months before he'd get around to looking at a contingency plan, still more months to decide which one to use and even more months to finally initiate any of them.  He's got the invasion of that evil Syria to keep his eyes on, remember?

This is his war.  He was there at the start, the middle and the end.  Of course he won't fire anybody, they'd be the first to report all his other fuck-ups.  That's how elitists work, they need to keep each other close, whether friends or enemies.  At least this way they can all say nobody's been abandoned, obviously they intend the Taliban to make full use of everybody left, whether as hostages, converts, maybe they'll just execute or marry someone if they feel like it.  It's their call.  That's not being "abandoned."
