This isn't as big a deal as you might expect at first glance.  He's not leaving office, he's just not running for re-election.  He's voluntarily not going for a third term is less of a big deal when you put it like that.  Now it is true that he's only doing this because he might be asked questions about the Somali scandal and he's not going to answer any questions.

I'm assuming his problem is that he knows much more about the Somali scandal than he's admitting and since he did absolutely nothing to stop it, he couldn't possibly win an election now.  But unless he quits early, he still has over a year left in office so he can keep the money flowing.  Since he's not worried about being re-elected, nobody's going to stop him.  Not that anyone would try, they haven't so far.

Partially he's just a convenient sacrifice so Democrats look like they're doing something and partially because he probably knows a lot more of what's really going on so they need to ditch him immediately.  I still think that's what happened with Al Franken, it's not that his public actions were so horrible, it's that those who knew him also knew what those would lead to and needed to keep the public from seeing any of that.  I think that's the problem Walz is facing about how taxpayer money gets used.

The UN is only 10-11 miles from where Maduro is staying, why don't they just go visit him?  Might be that they don't have any authority outside the UN and it might be that Maduro knows too much about them.  Does he really have any reason to restrain himself at this point?  If he's going to be taken down, might as well take as many others with him as possible.

Somalia gets to have current leadership at the UN, that can't remotely be a coincidence.  BRICS is standing up to oppose this action of Maduro, as are their fellow leftists.  It's interesting that Waltz' point seems to be that Maduro wasn't a national leader, he was part of the narco-terrorist group Cartel de los Soles.  Is there a reason he can't be both?  Anyway, he also cites the last couple decades of UN reports on Venezuela pushing drugs and terrorism.

I'm guessing that one point to this is to make it clear to the UN that the US isn't going to put up with this anymore.  If they want to stay in NYC they have to be nicer to us and we're fine with them leaving NYC anyway.  I think the UN would cave in very quickly.  There's very few places they can go, even fewer that would be remotely decent and nothing else where they can have all the thrills of living here with none of the responsibility.  The US is the safest place to be if you want to fight the US.

I expected this.  I was looking for an excuse to post that we hadn't heard about the Navy ships leaving.  That would be a real easy way to prove there's no actual war but they are going to be needed to see who else starts fighting.  It looks more like speculation than any real facts but that's understandable, this says that it's other high-ranking Venezuelans demanding their turn with full power.  But then they'll have to face others with the same demands.

Not sure our forces in the Caribbean have anything to work on but they'd need to keep a watch on what's going on.  But then Trump has also said that maybe they should go after Cuba or Colombia.  No way to know if he's serious or if that's just a threat he's pushing for whatever reason, at least at the moment.  In the long term, yes of course he intends to take them down.

And just look, with all the problems in Venezuela, Trump can point to all the danger Maduro would be in if our troops hadn't gone into rescue him.  He's actually helping to protect Maduro but nobody gives him credit for that.  Even better, this might all be a distraction from what's going on over in Iran.  This could be like a line of dominos knocking

They're from Homeland Security, not the military.  That's about it for a big change, they're headed in to do... something over the next month.  I will admit, this does seem extremely appealing that events and organizations are finally being tied together.  And what's the left going to do, demand to shoot DHS agents?  I'm sure they'll think of it but they'll probably chicken out.

And 2000?  That's more than they sent National Guard troops to most-if-not-all cities.  I'm sure there were more than that involved in the attack on Venezuela but you'd have to count all the people on the ships.  I am very curious what they're going to be doing but I suspect we'll find out soon.  Going after the Somalis and their connections, city, state and federal?  The potential makes me giddy.  Bad potential, stop that!

Still more of these stories are coming out as well.  This one doesn't seem to be connected.  She filed for unemployment during Covid even though her business was still open and she'd been in the Georgia House since 2013  It looks like she left the House today.  No reason to think she had any deliberate connections with others doing this, more like an atmosphere of getting away with anything, but it's possible that's why they hide these connections.  That would be what Homeland Security is looking for.

They've got Somali-Americans, they've got money laundering across the border, they've got the Somali head of the UN Security Council for more across-the-border shenanigans, the last year of investigation to see where all this is going.  It's not remotely going to be limited to Somalis.
