□ [“Trump Says Iran Ceasefire is Over ‘I Don’t Want to Deal With Them Anymore… They’re Scum’"]
I hope he's not teasing us but it's Trump so I'll be negative. Should have said this months ago but he has to be the 'negotiator!!!' Anyway he started hitting Iran last night - not sure what time zone 'last night' refers to - and he has already said we'll be hitting them tonight. If any of the mullahs or major players in the IRGC are still alive this weekend, it means Trump has failed.
And because they're Iran, they didn't bother to fight back against the US attacking, instead they sent out some missiles and drones to US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait. No word on if that caused any damage. They also hit some ships on the Strait but that's normal. I really want to think this was always part of the plan, hit Iran hard, give them a couple months to think about it, then hit them again. But then I thought the mullahs would be dead by April so don't take my word for it.
Trump is reporting this at the NATO meeting in Turkey, which means he's not that far away, a little over a thousand miles from Tehran. To the extent we still have an alliance, this meeting is probably about planning what to do next. Zelensky attended but there was officially no talk about Ukraine and Russia. He did make sure to insult European leaders, saying they love him so much, and bring up that he's still interested in the US taking Greenland. Just another example that even when he's doing stuff we like, he's still Trump.

□ [“Democrats Already Vetted Graham Platner, Why Bail On Him Now?"]
Another day passes and still no sign that he's dropped out yet. We know he will, there's no other options. I know the party, state if not national, has rules about this. He won the primary, he's the nominee and the rules only cover things like death or something, but the party doesn't need to follow the rules. They'll find a way to get him out, no matter what.
But there will still be several big problems. First of all, what is he going to do about being kicked out? He comes from a wealthy family and only pretended to be poor, the leftist leaders were all fine with that. This suggests they really did know what he does and they support that too, so they're already going to be questioned about this. The answer is obvious, he pushes leftism and that all you need to get power with this party but they can't say that in public.
Right now the vetting looks to be the big deal, why didn't anybody check? The best answer is that 'he said what we wanted to hear so we believed him without question.' Otherwise it's 'we knew about it, we just didn't care.' The longer they hold out on this, the worse it looks for everybody. Who else did they let get by with this sort of vetting that just hasn't been caught yet?
And I'm sure this won't go anywhere but it's worth thinking about, Planter is on the defensive. He didn't get this far by not being devoted to the cause and leftism is all about feeling oppressed and under attack no matter how rich and powerful you get. He was willing to pretend he was poor and the party leaders knew it. He can start gushing out their secrets. Or worse, take things to the end, effectively suicide bombing the party. If he doesn't see any other option, there's very little to stop him. I'm sure the party will kick him out any day now but they should consider that as one of the possibilities.

□ [“KY Governor Asks McConnell to Provide Public Update on Health Amid ‘Brain Dead’ Rumor"]
I knew he'd been out for a while but I just realized today that it was back in mid-June when he was gone. Yet-another high-ranking politician who gets to skip work for weeks and barely anybody notices. There's quite a few of those in Congress these days, although there seems to be fewer every day. For most of my life I've only supported term-limits for POTUS but there are very solid arguments to include Congress.
What do these people get out of this? To an extent there's lust for power, ok, but that doesn't really come across for Congress. They make decisions and see no actual results, even as they have to deal with 534 others like them. They can get wealth and power for family-members, that's something, but sitting in endless meetings, negotiating or blackmailing back and forth? I really can't understand the mentality that wants to do that, especially with age and health problems like this.
Then there's the way they know they're blocking the door for anyone else to replace them, younger, healthier, more in touch with the kids are into these days. There's always going to be generational war about that. At least in the old days, most people spent their lives without much attention to the government. That's what freedom does but that's not Congress.

□ [“Platner Drop Outs of Maine Senate Race Amid Explosive Rape Allegations"]
I was pretty sure that soon I would write an article about how he hadn't dropped out yet and then the next time I checked he'd dropped out. The party has already announced that they'll have a "representative, transparent and inclusive process to select a new nominee" so they probably already have him picked. We'll see if the voters have any say in the matter.
My guess is they won't, Maine will quickly go silent. For the most part they've realized they'll lose in November. They'll also be asked how they got into this mess and, if anyone is permitted, they'll be asked if Platner got to choose his replacement like he wanted. And that's all before November when they have to do something to promote the new candidate who wasn't their first choice and may not have even been in the primary.
I'm guessing this will go away very quickly. The Democrats and the media who all supported Platner have been told to stop and they'll obey. At this point we should know that they're not going to loudly challenge any of the decisions being made, unless instructed to. But this won't help the replacement candidate this November, leftists do have a tendency to go quiet when things are going wrong, the 'politically-obsessed' equivalent of 'let the others fight it out.' That said, it would be really nice if a large number of the party were pissed off at being strung around like this and let their leaders know.
