If we surrender, maybe we can have food again. Is that for Ukraine or here?

□ [“American Truck Convoy Encircles DC on Capital Beltway During First Day of Protests"]

Ok, so they're driving around Washington DC in a roughly-70 mile-long convoy.  Tomorrow should be fun, at least for the truckers.  Might not be so much for the other drivers, sucks to be them.

DC probably has a larger percentage than most cities of people who don't actually need to come into work every day but that still doesn't provide food or other supplies and there's still a huge number of people who are needed for that.  The Pentagon has its own shopping malls and hospitals, those would need people.  Congress needs maids, the maids need abortionists, they all need to go to and from work.

Well, apparently they are quite limited in what they can do.  They're not even allowed to drive in DC itself, it's federal property which rules their personal vehicles.  It really does stress that they should just be on strike.

Back in 1990 as Russia was collapsing, Secretary of State James Baker promised repeatedly that NATO would move "not one inch eastward" while negotiating with Mikhail Gorbachev.  But a lot of former Warsaw Pact states did join and more requested it.  It makes sense, they were in chaos and reached out for help for freedom.

I'm ambivalent, help yes, NATO no.  It's not like that's the only organization the US has joined in the last century, or the only one that's basically shaped around us since Britain and France basically quit and they were the only other members with serious contributions.  It may have been one reason East Germany was so quick to unite with West Germany.

Anyway, that doesn't change Russian history, they don't like westerners moving in on their turf and they have a lot of turf.  Both sides had spent decades building up their security so that would be dug in deep, then there's the transfer of all these people who had grown up with communism and now could infect the world.

There's even a C-Span quote from Joe Biden on June 20, 1997, saying that the biggest danger from Russia would be letting Baltic nations join NATO.  It's the most likely thing to get a "vigorous and hostile reaction" from Russia.  And that's the next 25 years.

□ [“Russia Offers Terms to Ukraine for an End to Hostilities"]

Ukraine has to stop fighting, accept "neutrality" and acknowledge that Russia owns Crimea while Donetsk and Lugansk are now independent states.  Ok, that last probably means they're Russian puppets, safe guess.  I'm not sure what they're "neutral" to but surely leftists everywhere would want the fighting to stop.  All they're saying is give pizza another chance, right?  Yes, it would mean the second successful invasion of Ukraine in under a decade but who can say no to peas?

So far, Ukraine has said 'no.'  I assume whoever's in charge has to have a bit more understanding of reality than leftists but then again, whoever's in charge really seems to want more human misery.

The only sense of "neutrality" I can think of is being a corrupt laundering site for western powers.  It's been noticed that a lot of Democrats send their kids there to work for fossil fuel companies, despite those same Democrats claiming that gas and oil kill the planet.  As I've said, I do think Ukraine is one hub of the world corruption so "neutrality" may be a way to end part of it.

Obviously they couldn't stand up against Russia very long without help, not if Russia really wanted to conquer, and they're not getting any real help from the West.  There's several centuries of history to rely on but I think it's a given that Russia will win, all other things being equal.  It's just a matter of how long it will be until Ukraine surrenders.  Obviously I don't have a clue what else needs to be equal to reach that conclusion but if I had to make a bet, that's where I'd go.

Just think, barely a year ago we were told that the inflation was "transitory."  Then it was "corporate greed."  Now we're told that it's because Putin invaded Ukraine.  We do notice that the minimum wage sure doesn't go as far as it did a year ago.

This is just projection, they're the conspiracy theorists imposing their fantasies.  Are they going to wipe out any politician who gets out of line?  They're getting ready to strike, that much is clear.  They probably can't hit everybody at once so who are they going for?
