Day 36 without a federal government.  Where's the chaos?  Where's the zillions of people dying in the streets because there's not a government to protect us?  I remember when we were promised that there'd be mass suffering all because we had no government, that's what I voted for!!!  They were lying!

At least give us starvation, I'm sick of all these fat people showing up to protest Trump.  I don't get how these people are still alive if there's no jobs to buy food and no food to buy even if you have a job.  My parents are rich so I'm fine but everyone who thinks the way I do should be dead by now.  And if it's not the lack of food, there's all the drugs we're taking.  I mean that they're taking.  That's what I meant to say.

□ [“Trump:  End the Filibuster and Pass Bills to Secure Elections – Thune:  'Not Happening'"]

I still don't want the filibuster ended.  But this is where Trump needs to start getting some wins.  Second terms aren't that great for the POTUS.  Clinton just conformed, GWB went along with Democrats to keep the war going, Obama didn't do much anyway.  And now Trump has had elections stolen for Democrats who want to destroy this country, and he can't even get the Senate leader to go with him.

We're still tired of all the losing.  I haven't checked a complete rundown but IIRC, the losses from last night weren't even that big, other than NYC.  Someone who wants to murder his opponents' children, Muslim socialist, that sort of thing.  One or two Muslims did lose mayoral races, if that counts as a win.  I haven't even bothered checking leftist sites, we know this is the happiest they've been in a year.

This is a problem Trump faces, he's getting older and losing his influence, whether he likes it or not.  Will continue to point out his victories but however big they've been for the last year, there's nothing spectacular to point to.  Peace around the world, gas prices lowering, good things and I'm not criticizing that.  But then there's insisting he'd release the Epstein files right away, then saying several months later he'd look into it, then saying he can't believe anybody's still interested in this, and to this day everyone involved is still walking around loose.  Stuff like that matters.

Some solid wins are definitely needed right now.  Otherwise he'll wind up where all the other two-termers end up and it'll just get worse by the mid-terms.  I keep saying there's a long range plan underway but I can't really point to any evidence.  This is where you need regular points to demonstrate that progress is made.  Stop antagonizing your own supporters.

□ [“Trump Declares SNAP Benefits on Hold Until ‘Radical Left Democrats Open the Government’"]

A good move in some ways, it might be a bad move in others.  There's not much money available to spend (officially) so there's that.  He's defying judges who insisted he pay regardless, which is a good thing but also leaves the possibility that higher courts will do that too.  The Supreme Court has mostly sided with him but that can change at any time.  Then there's the fact that was initially going to comply with the judges, this just seems to be changing his mind for no reason.  If it's about the lack of money, why didn't he say that in the first place?

Another federal union - and I still want to know why these people are in the government and not the airlines or airports - and why government workers get to unionise! - against the Democrats.  This has to be hitting them deep, since they pretend to care for workers *and* unions.  Last we heard, Democrats were waiting to see how the elections went so what will they do now?

□ [“Senate Nearing ‘Three-Legged’ Deal to End Government Shutdown"]

This is one of those things that just comes off like it was always a plan and the rest was just putting on a show.  For that matter, someone somewhere in the government might have thought this was the way to go and eventually his name will come out and he'll be proclaimed the hero (or villain) of the whole thing.

This sounds like three bills.  It's not clear in what order they'd be done or if they're all tied to each other.  One covers military, legislative and agriculture spending, one covers Obamacare tax credits and then there's a continuing resolution to cover negotiations for an actual budget.  Obviously there's no other info so there's really no reason to see hope or despair.

The 'continuing resolution' would just continue the *woke* spending but I'm not sure that could be avoided at this point, at least not if we want the government open.  The other spending bill might be *woke* but it would probably pass easily, especially if it's not connected to the other two.  The Obamacare tax credits sound like the biggest fight, the one where I'm worried Republicans would give up, and the biggest question about if it's attached to the other two bills.

At the moment, I'm not enthused either way.  I believe the shutdown is now becoming the longest one in history, another record set by Trump.  I would probably say vote against all of them just because but I don't have any greater thoughts on the matter.

□ [“European Commission Criticizes Ukraine for ‘Backsliding’ on Corruption, Demands ‘Rule of Law’ Reforms"]

They've gotten everything without joining the EU, what incentive do they have to change now?  They made this request to join a couple days after Russia invaded so eventually the EU needs to pretend they take it seriously and can't just ignore their own rules.  Just give them more money and they promise this time they'll try to change.

Even some liberal media are turning against Zelensky, calling him authoritarian for censoring press and banning opposing political parties.  He's done that for years, why are they only bothered by it now?  He's still doing it, there are still upcoming elections such as the mayor of Odessa and Kiev, so he's attacking opponents there too.  It's suggested that Britain and the EU are indeed tired of supporting Ukraine and this might be the main reason why leftists are starting to suddenly turn against them.

Russia is still moving forward, surrounding 10,000 Ukrainians in Donetsk.  They're also ready to take Odessa which, besides basically being part of Russia anyway, would also cut Ukraine off from the water.  I'd have to check but wasn't Odessa one of the central point of conflict all along?  Both sides always believe it's theirs and if it's currently occupied by the enemy, they'll work to change that.

This war has really fallen off the radar.  Whatever military-age males are left are now ditching Ukraine, nobody seems to care.  Or put up walls to keep them out of any other country.  A month ago, the CIA declassified a report on Joe Biden's trip to Ukraine a decade ago and the help and money Hunter got from that.  This also gets no attention.  Yet another example of why problems halfway around the world shouldn't automatically be a high priority, and yes I'm aware that contradicts Trump's recent comments about Nigeria and Ukraine itself.

□ [“Maduro Orders Creation of App for Venezuelans To Report ‘Everything They See and Hear’"]

This guy seems to be getting desperate.  And something about this just seems like a lunatic idea.  I get the impression that his staff are telling him 'great idea' and in a few days they'll say this app is working perfectly, we're arresting anybody it finds guilty and all that.  Maduro will never know what's going on and will be the last to find out he's been overthrown.

□ [“Syria’s ISIS-Aligned Government May Join U.S.-Led Coalition Against ISIS – Kurds Skeptical"]

Less encouraging, what are we trying to do with ISIS?  For that matter, what is ISIS doing?  And what is Syria doing?  As far as unifying people, ok, fine, but this is not a part of the world where that has worked out for anybody.  ISIS seems to be the Muslim equivalent of Antifa and they might even be connected.  Maybe they even installed the new NYC mayor.  I agree that there's something here to fight but I don't have a clue what or why.

□ [“Trump Threatens to Go to Nigeria 'Guns-a-Blazing' with 'Fast, Vicious, and Sweet' Attack - 'There’s Going to be Hell to Pay!'"]

And then there's this.  It sounds good, it's the sort of quick and hard pounding I would support for the 'world policeman' but this still makes me wary.  Would one solid hit really solve the problem?  It would be doing *something* but I can't imagine that will be enough.  This may contradict what I said about Trump needing an actual victory but I'm not convinced that this is the way to go.  But a better argument might be able to prove me wrong.

So this is is showing the mess we have with Trump on the way out as POTUS.  He's still got three years and has usually showed that he's an exception to the rules but it's just not encouraging to see this, and it's only a fraction of the international problems he (and we) face.  But he is showing that even 'America first' has its limits.
